"Illustrators 53" exhibit at UALR

Fans of illustration (count me in) should check out the "Society of Illustrators Annual Exhibit: Illustrators 53" that opened this week at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Fine Arts Center Gallery.

The show includes 40 works in six categories: sequential, editorial, book, advertising, institutional and uncommissioned and artists include Scott Bakal, Anna and Elana Balbusso, Jonathan Bartlett, Sam Bosma, Steve Brodner, Calef Brown, Marc Burckhardt, Chris Buzelli, Josh Cochran, Raul Colón, John Cuneo, André da Loba, Johnny Dombrowski, Bil Donovan, Gérard DuBois, Leo Espinosa, Peter Good, Alessandro Gottardo, Steven Guarnaccia, Tomer Hanuka, John Hendrix, Jody Hewgill, Sterling Hundley, Tara Jacoby, Travis Lampe, Nimit Malavia, Chris Silas Neal, Kadir Nelson, Victo Ngai, Tim O’Brien, Philippe Petit-Roulet, Red Nose Studio, Edel Rodriguez, Matt Rota, Koren Shadmi, Yuko Shimizu, Brian Stauffer, Gary Taxali, Sachin Teng, Jack Unruh, Sam Weber.

Steve Brodner's watercolor and ink above, "Reservoir Runners," drawn for the New Yorker, was a Gold Medal winner. Johnny Dombrowski's ink and digital below, "Homo Ferus," is an example from the not commissioned category.

    GiGi’s Soul Cafe and Lounge at 10840 Maumelle Blvd., where the Nashville Rockin Grill was located, opened July 28 and co-owner Darrell Wyrick the restaurant is “bringing back the spirit of some of the places that have gone, like Porter’s and The Afterthought” with its soul food and “old school R and B vibe.”
