An exhibit of new paintings by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette cartoonist John Deering opens Friday, Nov. 4, at Cantrell Gallery. This year's exhibit is titled "Night Owls." An artist's reception is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. opening day; the show runs through Christmas Eve.

Deering is the artist who created the Little Rock Nine sculpture on the north lawn of the State Capitol. Besides editorial cartoons, he draws "Zack" and "Strange Brew" on the funny pages.
