Tonight: Mr. Gnome, Yukon Blonde, Continental, Mandy McBryde

Yukon Blonde plays Juanitas tonight.
  • Yukon Blonde plays Juanita's tonight.

Cleveland psych-pop duo Mr. Gnome comes to Stickyz. But don't let the fact that there are only two of them fool you: The band does expansive and loud just as easily as it does intimate and restrained, sometimes within the span of a few seconds. There is a melodramatic, Arcade Fire kinda sound running through the band's tunes. The show starts at 9 p.m., $7.

White Water Tavern hosts Boston's Continental, featuring Rick Barton, formerly of Dropkick Murphys. Barton's current band skews more toward the Springsteen/Replacements side of things than the Celtic punk of the his former group. Second time in a week for the WWT to host a band with personnel from the Murphys. The show starts at 10 p.m., with Booyah! Dad opening up.

Over in the Spa City, singer-songwriter Mandy McBryde plays a free show at Maxine's, 8 p.m.

If you dig that whole gorgeous-vocal-harmonies-and-laid-back-classic-rock-vibe thing (a la alla those animal-name groups: Fleet Foxes, Dr. Dog, Band of Horses) then you might want to get down to Juanita's to catch Yukon Blonde and The Fling, 9 p.m., $5.

For some campy horror-punk fun, Downtown Music Hall has Grave Robber, with Behold the Kingdom and Every Knee Shall Bow, 7 p.m., $8.

For some hoops, the UALR men's Trojans take on Philander Smith at 5:15, and the women's Trojans play South Dakota State at 7:30 p.m., both games at the Jack Stephens Center, $4-$35.

You've got to figure that a band from frozen-ass Winnipeg is just gonna be way gnarlier and tougher than a band from some sun-kissed tropical clime where people wear tank tops and flip-flops year-round.
