Butler Center's music festival has a name: Arkansas Sounds

The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies released some details about its upcoming Arkansas music festival, scheduled for Sept. 28-29.

First off: it's going to be called Arkansas Sounds, which has a nice, simple ring to it.

Second off: They've announced a couple of the confirmed acts. Rockabilly legends Sleepy LaBeef and Sonny Burgess and The Legendary Pacers will be the headlining acts.

Festival coordinator John Miller offered some details about the festival to the Times a few weeks back.

The press release is after the jump.

Little Rock, AR - Arkansas Sounds will be the name of a new music festival hosted by the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, a department of the Central Arkansas Library System. Arkansas Sounds will take place on September 28 and 29 at the Riverfest Amphitheatre and the River Market Pavilions.

Two notable musical acts, Sleepy LaBeef and Sonny Burgess (appearing with his band the Legendary Pacers), have been confirmed as headlining acts for the fall festival. LaBeef is from Smackover, and Sonny Burgess is from Jackson County. Both are legendary rockabilly musicians and early rock and roll pioneers. Sonny Burgess was one of the original artists with record label Sun Records, while Sleepy LaBeef has shared the stage with musicians such as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Wanda Jackson. Both have been instrumental in shaping the world's perception of Arkansas music.

You've got to figure that a band from frozen-ass Winnipeg is just gonna be way gnarlier and tougher than a band from some sun-kissed tropical clime where people wear tank tops and flip-flops year-round.
