Watch Levon Helm perform at King Biscuit

Friend of the Times Greg Spradlin passes along this gem of the late, great Levon Helm playing King Biscuit back in the day.

From the Vimeo description:

This is a few moments of brilliance from Rock and Roll Jedi, Levon Helm at the King Biscuit Blues Festival in 1989. Levon came straight from the Ringo Starr All-Star Tour to support and nurture this young festival as it was getting off the ground. In all but one of the clips, he was performing as "Buck Dollar," a character they were filming for some likely shelved project. The last, all too short clip, is classic Levon. Watch the magic left hand. That's the trick hand. There's no one funkier or cooler behind the drums.

  • Cats and dogs

I've always been leery of people who dislike animals. To my wife and me, a house without dog hair in the corners and a cat perched on the windowsill is as barren as a highway rest stop. We're down to three dogs and two cats, the smallest menagerie we've had for years.
