Whoever did the selecting for “Arkansas Contemporary: Selected Fellows from the Arkansas Arts Council,” an exhibition opening Friday, Aug. 10, at the Historic Arkansas Museum, did a great job. Here are the 17 artists whose work you’ll see, all them widely recognized as among the state’s best: David W. Bailin, Gary Cawood, C. Victor Chalfant, Shelley Gipson, Louise Halsey, Shea Hembrey, Baxter Knowlton, Benjamin Krain, Kevin Kresse, Dennis R. McCann, Charles “Shep” Miers, Kristin Musgnug, Catherine Siri Nugent, Jerry Phillips, Aj Smith, Kathy Parker Thompson and Deborah Warren.

HAM will host a reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday for 2nd Friday Art Night. Gilding the lily, HAM is also offering music by the Pickoids and root beer floats made with Diamond Bear root beer and Loblloly ice cream. The exhibit runs through Nov. 4.
