"Formed From Fire: American Studio Glass from the Permanent Collection" opened today at the Arkansas Arts Center as part of a nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the American studio glass movement. (Google national celebration American studio glass movement and you'll see exhibits all over the country.) The movement was "born," the Corning Museum of Glass says, from two glass workshops given by Harvey K. Littleton at the Toledo Museum of Art.

The Arts Center exhibit features 30 glass objects (including pieces by Littleton) created in a variety of techniques — free-blown, mold-blown, cased, hot-worked, cut, cast, polished and layered. Other artists whose work appears in the exhibition include Dale Chihuly, Beth Lipman, Tim Tate, Sonja Blomdahl and others.
