"Small Works on Paper: 2006-2011 Retrospective,"
a touring exhibit sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council, opens today at Pulaski Technical College's Ozarks Gallery in the Ottenheimer Library. The college is located at 3000 W. Scenic Drive in North Little Rock. Reception for the retrospective is 1 p.m. Sept. 27.

The show includes 33 purchase award winners selected from past "Small Works" shows; the current "Small Works" exhibition is at Ouachita Baptist University's Hammons Gallery through Sept. 20. The "Small Works" shows always include strong work by Arkansas artists (here's a review of the 2012 exhibit), so the retrospective of winners should be particularly dense with good pieces.

Like the annual "Small Works" show, the retrospective exhibition will tour as well, to colleges in Malvern, Hope, Camden, Ashdown, Nashville, DeQueen, Hot Springs, Helena, Forrest City, Batesville and West Memphis. The show will stay at Pulaski Tech through Oct. 24.

"Small Works on Paper" features work no larger than 24 by 24 inches. It was created in the 1980s by members of the Arkansas Artist Registry maintained by the Arkansas Arts Council.

We don't get to post all the jpegs of artwork on exhibit that come into the office, but they have more allure and tell you more about the work than what I can write about them. Hence this slideshow of work from shows opening tonight (Aug. 10) for 2nd Friday Art Night, 5-8 p.m. (see the To Do list for more information), and other openings and shows this weekend and in the days ahead.
