Well, if you manage to keep your power, it looks like Christmas vacation just got a day longer. Little Rock recorded 9″ of snow in some areas, a frozen precipitation total that makes my little Southern heart sink every time I read it. I originally intended this news round-up to be a place where we could all talk about what we ate for Christmas dinner and share left-over tips, and while I still want to do that, feel free to use this as an open thread to share snow-bound survival tips and your favorite snow ice cream methods.

*A drink to warm you:
I ran into cocktail expert Joel DiPippa at Colonial Wine & Spirits a week or so ago, and while my favorite mixed drink consists of beer+glass, he had his arms full of tasty looking liquids. His resulting drink is a play on the classic Rob Roy, well worth a look.

*Kids cook: If you’ve ever wanted to inspire your kids to learn more about the kitchen, you might start with this post from Thanh Rasico of Red Kitchen Recipes. Her daughter made this tasty looking Taco Ring, and it looks easy enough for your kids to give it a try, too.

*Restaurant reviews: If you get tired of hearing me and Dan go on about restaurants (not that you’d ever really get tired of that), you might check out Eating In and Out and About, a local blog that has restaurant reviews interspersed with some good recipes.

*Protected goods: We all know that things like champagne are region-specific, but there are some lesser known products that are also protected. Including…rhubarb?

*A personal favorite: This week’s recipe is from the Little Rock blog “Essence of Soul,” and it’s one of my favorite desserts of all time: Four Layer Pie. My mom used to make this every year for my birthday.

*Snow Day time waster: If you enjoyed last week’s time waster, you might be excited to learn that there’s a sequel: Sushi Cat 2.

And now we’ll turn over the floor to all of you. Got a recipe you’d like to share? Done a restaurant review you’d like us to read? Know of a local blog that we’re missing? Here’s your chance to promote all those things. And as always, we want your restaurant recommendations, foodie news, and anything else. We might as well talk to each other since we’re all snowed in!
