Food Feedback Friday: brave, beer, and Biscuitgate

Eat at your own risk
  • Eat at your own risk

Well folks, we are wrapping up another fun filled week here at Eat Arkansas. For myself, this week past has been filled with spectacular bites as well as some rather disappointing (and at times, horrific) dining experiences. This was, of course, the week that our dear friend, Kevin Shalin, risked his life for the sake of a Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuit, and nearly lost it in an attempt to break a world record. I don’t even know where to start with this story, but suffice it to say, this thing was big, REAL big. (Kudos to Rock City Times.)

Last week on Food Feedback Friday here’s what you all had to say:

Kar was treated to a meal at Brave New and “got the spinach/crab stuffed trout and it was delicious but the standout at the table was the walleye special.” Our friend Raven “made it to Gus's and it was perfection. Perfectly fried spicy chicken, good slaw and a cold 32 oz Miller High Life to wash it all down.” On the other hand, Polecat also visited Gus’s and found that “the staff was clueless. They were having a great time—laughing and talking on their cell phones. Had no idea how to do an assembly line in loading plates.” Bluesyoucanuse had dinner at Steinhauskeller in Hot Springs and boldly declares it to be “some of the best German food I've ever eaten, and I've eaten German food all over North America.” Jenniferb took a chance and “got takeout from Mike's (Place) earlier (the Bun Tom Nuong—BBQ shrimp over vermicelli, plus spring rolls) and really enjoyed it!”

So where are you eating this week? We’d love to hear from you.

  • The Kraft Mac & Cheese Food Hack

Recently, we held another food hack competition, taking another childhood classic, Kraft Mac & Cheese, and tried to turn it on its head, creating something entirely new and unique. Again, the results were pretty awesome. The rules were simple: Use a whole box of mac and cheese, both noodles and cheese powder, and turn it into any sinister monstrosity imaginable. We had a vote via the Eat Arkansas Facebook page to crown a winner. Here's what was submitted:

  • Food Feedback Friday: The "We need your vote!" edition

Alrighty...you know the drill with Food Feedback. Tell us what you're eating this week and what you thought about it. I love to hear all the suggestions and I'm frequently looking back through your recommendations to determine my next meal. So share away! Happy weekend, y'all.

  • Looking in on the new Le Pops, now in the Heights

Le Pops is a wonderful addition to the Heights neighborhood. Laurie Harrison is incredibly dedicated to her product, she still works here 7 days a week and is constantly experimenting in the kitchen to develop new flavors. Check them out the next time you need a cool down.

Everything that Donald Trump does — make that everything that he says — is calculated to thrill his lustiest disciples. But he is discovering that what was brilliant for a politician is a miscalculation for a president, because it deepens the chasm between him and most Americans.
  • On Charlottesville

Watching the Charlottesville spectacle from halfway across the country, I confess that my first instinct was to raillery. Vanilla ISIS, somebody called this mob of would-be Nazis. A parade of love-deprived nerds marching bravely out of their parents' basements carrying tiki torches from Home Depot.
