Food Feedback Friday: birthdays, beans, burritos

Posted By on Fri, Jul 12, 2013 at 6:09 PM

July is such a wonderful month…so many exciting birthdays! Of course, the birth of our nation. And it just so happens that both Michael and I will be celebrating birthdays this next week. Of course, that means lots of grand eating. We’ll be feasting at Tokyo House, Cajun’s Wharf, Vino’s, HAM, and The Packet House this coming week, just to name a few.

Be sure to check out Michael’s print review of Gus’s Fried Chicken in The Times this week, which you can also read here.

Last week on FFF:

Kar went to Trio’s and found that the “crepes were divine - chicken, jack, peppers with a bright pico and not too heavy. Their coffee is always fantastic.” Good ole’ Shalin (who is also celebrating a birthday this month), “had a fantastic meal at Flying Fish…all our seafood was excellent but I was most impressed with their beans and rice.” WLRBelle had a wonderful meal at Rosalinda’s in NLR stating, “Now I'm stuck on the Pupusas plate that comes with rice and beans!” Our friend Raven “made our maiden voyage to Chuy's and was pleasantly surprised. Good service, tasty beef burrito, and really good chips & salsa & creamy jalapeño dip.” Slow Yeti went to E’s Bistro in NLR and tells us the “fish tacos were also awesome. He also really loved the black beans, even the onion component, something he normally dislikes.”

You can read all about it here. So, what do you got for us this week?

  • The Kraft Mac & Cheese Food Hack

Recently, we held another food hack competition, taking another childhood classic, Kraft Mac & Cheese, and tried to turn it on its head, creating something entirely new and unique. Again, the results were pretty awesome. The rules were simple: Use a whole box of mac and cheese, both noodles and cheese powder, and turn it into any sinister monstrosity imaginable. We had a vote via the Eat Arkansas Facebook page to crown a winner. Here's what was submitted:

  • Looking in on the new Le Pops, now in the Heights

Le Pops is a wonderful addition to the Heights neighborhood. Laurie Harrison is incredibly dedicated to her product, she still works here 7 days a week and is constantly experimenting in the kitchen to develop new flavors. Check them out the next time you need a cool down.

  • Donald Trump is historically unpopular — and not necessarily where you think

My colleagues John Ray and Jesse Bacon and I estimate, in the first analysis of its kind for the 2018 election season, that the president's waning popularity isn't limited to coastal cities and states. The erosion of his electoral coalition has spread to The Natural State, extending far beyond the college towns and urban centers that voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016. From El Dorado to Sherwood, Fayetteville to Hot Springs, the president's approval rating is waning.
