Coming soon to a restaurant in Argenta: $8 two-course lunch menus, $25 three-course prix-fixe dinners and more, for Argenta Restaurant Week Aug. 19-24.

Downtown North Little Rock's arts district offers culinary arts as well, and it's showing them off at Argenta Market, Cornerstone Pub & Grill, Cregeen’s Irish Pub, Crush Wine Bar, The Joint, Mugs Cafe, Reno’s Argenta Cafe, Ristorante Capeo and Starving Artist Cafe.

Here's some spice: You can enter to win a $50 Argenta Restaurant Gift Certificate by taking a picture of yourself and your server with the official Restaurant Week menu and posting it on the Argenta Arts District Facebook wall. A winning photo will be chosen at random on Monday, Aug. 26, and the winner announced.

One of the booths at this week's Ark-La-Tex Medical Cannabis Expo was hosted by the Arkansas Hemp Association, a trade group founded to promote and expand non-intoxicating industrial hemp as an agricultural crop in the state. AHA Vice President Jeremy Fisher said the first licenses to grow experimental plots of hemp in the state should be issued by the Arkansas State Plant Board next spring.
  • Cats and dogs

I've always been leery of people who dislike animals. To my wife and me, a house without dog hair in the corners and a cat perched on the windowsill is as barren as a highway rest stop. We're down to three dogs and two cats, the smallest menagerie we've had for years.
