Hat-tip to Times commentator Norma Bates for pointing out that the original mononymous pop-diva — Cher — will swing through Arkansas on her "Dressed to Kill" tour. She'll perform at Verizon Arena March 28, according to her website. I haven't gotten an official announcement from Verizon yet, so no word on when tickets go on sale.

Speaking of Cher and being dressed to kill, the video for her massive hit "If I Could Turn Back Time" was the straw that broke the self-righteous, uptight fundamentalist camel's back in my hometown. Apparently, the sight of a somewhat scantily clad 43-year-old woman cavorting aboard the USS Missouri, surrounded on all sides by seamen was just too much for the Talibangelicals of Berryville circa 1989. They organized a posse to confront our local cable provider and managed to intimidate the company into dropping MTV. If any of you faithful Rock Candy readers were wondering why my pop-music knowledge seems to always stop dead in its tracks sometime around the release of Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting," well, that's why.

You've got to figure that a band from frozen-ass Winnipeg is just gonna be way gnarlier and tougher than a band from some sun-kissed tropical clime where people wear tank tops and flip-flops year-round.
