The tirelessly traveling six-string troubadour Eric Sommer is gonna be back at Midtown on Saturday with his wildly inventive guitar work. I hear tell that he'll have a new record out in March, and that he just finished up recording some spots for the Discovery Channel.

After the jump, check out a video of a recent performance in New Jersey to get a sampling of Sommer's bottleneck wizardry. If you fall in the intersection of a John Fahey/Sonic Youth Venn diagram, I bet you will very much dig this.

"It's amazing what you can do with cheap guitars," he says. Amen.

Check it out.

You've got to figure that a band from frozen-ass Winnipeg is just gonna be way gnarlier and tougher than a band from some sun-kissed tropical clime where people wear tank tops and flip-flops year-round.
