Sweet on Treatsie

Many of you may be aware of the internet "box" phenomenon that has been growing in popularity for some time. Some of our readers, including my wife Jess and Southern Ash writer Joel DiPippa (and his wife Amanda) swear by Birch Box, a fashion and beauty grab bag that comes in the mail every month for around $10 for women or $20 for men. As for me, I attempted to get into the box game by signing up for Jungle Stand, a snack box with rotating flavors ... but it wasn't for me.

So what's the point here? Well, the point is this: Arkansas has its own "box" company called Treatsie, and they're really bringing it with their monthly snack selection. Treatsie began when co-founder Keith Hoelzeman was looking for a gift for his wife for Valentine's Day. He found a lot of things online that he thought were interesting, but had trouble making a choice. His wife was receiving some of the cosmetic monthly boxes, so Hoelzeman decided that he could do the same thing with high-end artisanal sweets and treats. It's good, it's local, and it's very high quality.

Treatsie is doing some special things for Valentine's Day, so join me under the jump for more information.

Here's the press release from Treatsie:

Local Artisan Sweets Startup Offers Valentine’s Gifts that Literally Keep Giving

(Little Rock, Ark. - Feb. 4, 2014) - Finding a unique sweets-related gift for Valentine’s Day gets more challenging every year. One startup aims to change that.

Treatsie Artisan Sweets curates and introduces consumers to the best gourmet sweets from the finest small-batch confectioners around the country through a monthly subscription box and an online marketplace.

“There are millions of sweets out there. At Treatsie, we work to find great, chef-run sweets shops and help them grow their businesses by connecting them with people who love good food,” said Keith Hoelzeman, co-founder and CEO of Treatsie.

The Treatsie Artisan Sweets subscription box includes 8 — 9 sample size items from 3 — 4 small, independent vendors, which change every month. When subscribers find items they love, they can buy full-size versions through Treatsie’s e-commerce store. Gift subscriptions can be ordered in 1-month, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year periods.

In addition to its monthly subscription box, Treatsie is offering specialty one-off boxes including: a Valentine’s Box, a Hot Love Box, a Man Box, a Bacon Your Man Happy Box, a Best of 2013 Box, a Chocolate Lover’s Box and a Caramel Lover’s Box.

  • Cats and dogs

I've always been leery of people who dislike animals. To my wife and me, a house without dog hair in the corners and a cat perched on the windowsill is as barren as a highway rest stop. We're down to three dogs and two cats, the smallest menagerie we've had for years.
