Folks like me can yak all day about food, but without pictures, food blogging just doesn't come alive. I've been lucky to have worked with a pretty great photographer, Jess Roberts, through my entire food writing career — and I liked her so much that I married her. Brian Chilson, the Times excellent staff photographer, has also done numerous wonderful photos to illustrate stories that we've written, and I can't wait for you all to see some of the work he did for our first edition of Food and Farm magazine, soon to hit farmers markets and newsstands everywhere. Seeing is believing, and that's especially true when describing food.

Our last photo contest resulting in a wonderful group of pictures from all over the state, making it tough to pick finalists. Our eventual winner, seen right, was chosen by our readers during a fun round of heavy Facebook voting — and I truly appreciate everybody who participated.

So since that contest was so much fun, why don't we do another one? For this latest contest, I've collected some pretty fantastic swag from our friends at Hillcrest Artisan Meats, including H.A.M. caps, shirts, and a $20 gift certificate for anything in the store. Special thanks to Brandon and the gang for donating these prizes — they're great folks.

And since our favorite local butcher is supplying the prizes, I thought we'd celebrate the start of grilling season by having a contest with a "meat" theme. Send me your pictures of all those carnivorous delights you've cooked or eaten at local restaurants, and I'll turn them over to our celebrity judges, Kat Robinson and Thanh Rasico to pick finalists. And before our vegetarian readers get upset with me — if you're grilling veggies or other food this year, send those in, too.

Photo submissions should be sent to arkansas.foodies@gmail.com, starting today and running through May 9, 2014. Finalists will be announced on Monday, May 12, and Facebook voting will run through Friday, May 16. As always, present or past Eat Arkansas and Arkansas Times writers (or their family members) are not eligible, nor is the winner of our last contest. As for the rest of you — send me those pics, and if you didn't win las
