The Piranesi show at UALR: Watch the video

Posted By on Fri, Sep 5, 2014 at 10:02 AM

UALR gallery director Brad Cushman talks about UALR's new exhibition, "Piranesi and Perspectives of Rome," featuring the works by the 18th century engraver from the university's and other collections, in this video. On Sunday at 3 p.m., Dr. Heather Hyde Minor of the University of Illinois will give a talk, "Piranesi's Afterlife," based on her upcoming book, "Giovanni Piranesi's Lost Worlds." She'll give the talk in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

UALR's collection, the Thompson-Cromwell Portfolio, is made up of etchings printed in the Vatican in the first half of the 20th century from plates engraved in the 1700s. The late architect Edwin Cromwell found the works in the attic of his father-in-law, Charles Thompson, also an architect; Cromwell's daughters donated them to UALR.

Upcoming on Sept. 25: Dr. Carol Mattusch, professor emerita from George Mason University, will give the talk "Pompeiian Dreams: Myths and Realities about the Ancient Romans" and Dr. Richard S. Mason of the University of Maryland will lecture on "Rediscovering Herculaneum and Pompeii."
