Non-traditional cakes, classic deliciousness

Everyone loves cake, right? So, what's a vegan in Little Rock to do when she gets a hankering for the sweet stuff? What do you do when you have a big party and you're in need of a cake, but your skills at baking are sub par? Fear not, fellow foodies, because there are delicious options for vegans and non-vegans alike.

A few months back, I hosted a baby shower for a good friend. I knew I needed a cake, and perhaps some cupcakes as well, but it would prove disastrous if I tried to produce the treats for the party. So, I headed down to Blue Cake Company and had a chat with the spunky, energetic staff. They assured me that they could do vegan treats, no problem. They were even delighted by the baby shower theme, sugar skulls. When I arrived a week later to pick up my order, I was ecstatic to see the large, vegan vanilla cake, complete with a printed, colorful skull on the top. I also grabbed the dozen chocolate cupcake with bright blue butter cream frosting. These items were a hit. None of the attendees at the baby shower were vegan, but they all raved about the dessert. The skull cake was elegantly decorated and tasted great. The cupcakes, though, were my favorite. The chocolate cake was light and fluffy and topped with a delicious frosting made with vegan butter. I would absolutely recommend Blue Cake Company to anyone in need of vegan baked goods for your next event. The staff are incredibly nice and easy to work with, and they will delight in making interesting creations for you.

What should you do, though, if you want cake this very instant, and you can't wait and order one? Head down to the bakery at Whole Foods on Rodney Parham in West Little Rock. They keep their ready made cooler stocked with easily recognizable vegan treats. At any given time, there are usually 2 or 3 flavors of vegan cakes to choose from that you can purchase by the slice. I often like to go there to pick up the vegan carrot cake, which is a dense, double layer cake filled with walnuts and carrot shavings and topped with a vegan cream cheese frosting. This cake is good. It was my favorite, until I tried their triple chocolate cake a few months back. I fear this cake may have ruined all other cake for me, because it was so delicious. There is also a tasty oreo cake that comes with pieces of oreo on top. Yes, I have a secret for you. Oreos are vegan.

Whether you are in need of a large cake, made to order for a special occasion, or you just need to cram a piece of cake into your mouth as soon as possible, vegans have options in Little Rock. Of course, cake isn't the only type of vegan treat you can find around Little Rock, but we'll have to save those adventures for another day.
