Macaroni and cheese: The ultimate comfort food. Every once in awhile, a craving comes over me for pasta coated in electric orange cheese sauce — usually when I'm making pork chops, meatloaf or some other Southern dish. I've had everything from Kraft Dinner in the blue box (packet of cheese powder, top with sliced Spam) to versions made with truffles and imported fromage. I've had it hot, cold and even fried into balls. It will never be my favorite thing to eat, but there are times when that's all I want.

It seems I'm not the only one.

This year, you mac n' cheese lovers can celebrate your devotion at the inaugural Mac N Cheez Mania, April 11 at War Memorial Stadium, starting at 11 a.m. The whole thing is being organized by Trinity United Methodist Church to raise money for local organizations that fight child hunger and strive to keep our kids healthy. Professionals and amateurs alike are invited to throw their hats into the ring and see who has the best cheesy macaroni.

Admission is $10, and kids 12 and under will get in free. There will be games and things as well as the food, so bring the family down to War Memorial and let's all get our mac on.
