Duffer alert: Golfer painting by Wood new to CBMA

An email about a new acquisition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art went astray in my mailbox, so I am late in reporting that Grant Wood's "The American Golfer" (1940) has been added to the collection.

This, like the exhibition on American game fish ("Fish Stories") at CBMA, might bring in the fellows, though I do not want to suggest that only men golf and fish. I have golfed. I come from a long line of golfers. I understand what P.G. Wodehouse meant when he wrote

It was a  morning when all nature shouted "Fore!" The breeze, as it blew gently up the valley, seemed to bring a message of hope and cheer, whispering of chip-shots holed and brassies landing squarely on the meat.

I have also fished. But I'm going to the museum to see "Van Gogh to Rothko" myself.
