1. Oh Cathy - "Lame"

Here's something from the new record by Oh Cathy, which is truly, transcendentally depressing. (Sample lyric: "I'm stuck / I suck / Everything's wrong.") Dense, shoegaze-y guitar music at its bleakest — and North Little Rock punk has a reputation to uphold

2. ettiem - "Stay"

New stuff from ettiem, the mutant-disco alter-ego of Little Rock's Country Florist. Kind of reminds me of the time I drank some cough syrup and fell asleep to the DVD menu of the "T.A.M.I. Show."

3. Lo Thraxx - "Ness'n"

Some laid-back rap about free-floating anxiety. Listen to Lo Thraxx — he knows about this stuff. On a related note, did you know that the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force issued a recommendation yesterday that doctors screen all adults for depression?

4. Peace Boner - "Pack Up"

"They are dumb songs," Little Rock punk band Peace Boner says of these demos, but I don't know, they seem pretty good? Then again many bands think too highly of their own stuff — are too quick to champion their own startling originality — so self-deprecation on this order is always welcome. "Most of the time we're just ok," the band's bio claims. This song sounds like graduating from college (or anything) and feeling ambivalent about it.

5. Dez Frio ft. Gold - "Money Goes"

Some lo-fi, gothic, easygoing headphone music about Little Rock police corruption. And it's good! But then I'm always partial to inexpensive-sounding rap that sounds good on car stereos.

6. SW/MM/NG - "Alien"

In an interview the Times a couple of years ago, asked to describe their music, Fayetteville's SW/MM/NG instead described what it wasn't — "Not summery, not nostalgic." The band recently released two new songs to give us a sense of what they're up to in 2016, and per their advice, I will not describe them as summery or nostalgic but instead as downright wintry and, I don't know, optimistic.

7. Goon des Garcons - "DIRT"
Goon des Garcons has blessed us with a new EP. Play the hits on your own time — this is its darkest, most dissonant and terrifying song. (It takes a certain degree of confidence to name a song "DIRT.") "Take it to the grave," etc.
