It sounds awful, but what a beauty: Here's the catfish cake that the Pulaski Tech Culinary Institute created for the 2016 winners of the Arkansas Times' Best Restaurants awards. The catfish, for those of you who have somehow never noticed, is the Arkansas Times' mascot, and it swims into our artwork — just as it does our Arkie soul — all the time.

The cake, a 4-tiered cake that included hand-painted logos of all the nominated restaurants,  fondant replicas of different foods and dishes prepared by the many restaurants, was served at the Times' winners banquet on Tuesday. Student Jennifer Young (not pictured) created the catfish topper and student J.C. Clogston painted the logos. See the culinary team in the photo below.

If you've been to Bentonville, you've probably seen Jason Jones' mural of a big blue octopus with bicyclists riding one of tentacle and tentacle another waving Sam Walton's truck around. Or, in Fayetteville, Jones' "Fresh Air" on Center Street. The murals that have transformed the historic downtowns in Northwest Arkansas have made us Little Rock lovers of outsized-urban-mural lovers green with envy.
