'Sorcerer' screens tonight at Riverdale

Posted By on Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 2:02 PM

Reminder: The Arkansas Times Film Series at Riverdale 10 Cinema continues tonight, April 19, at 7 p.m. We’re screening William Friedkin’s 1977 cult classic “Sorcerer,” starring Roy Scheider and soundtracked hypnotically and brilliantly by Tangerine Dream.

Friedkin's follow-up to the massively successful "The French Connection" and "The Exorcist," "Sorcerer" is a much stranger and more ambitious film, influenced — the director has claimed — by Werner Herzog and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Overlooked by many critics at the time, Roger Ebert judged it one of the top 10 films of 1977, and its reputation has only grown over the years — Quentin Tarantino named it among his 12 favorite films in 2012 and Stephen King placed it at No. 1 on a list of "20 movies that never disappoint."
