William Dunlap, an artist and author, will read from his new book, "Short Mean Fiction: Words and Pictures," tonight (Wednesday, April 27) at Greg Thompson Fine Art, 429 Main St. in North Little Rock.

Dunlap, whose work is included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other prestigious venues, will read from the book, his debut in letters, at 6 p.m. The gallery will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and hors d'oeuvres and "adult beverages" will be served.

Here's what his publisher, Nautilus Publishing Co., says of Dunlap's book:
Like tales from the Old Testament, the stories in this debut work are mean, rampant with sex, violence, and death. Sure to be a hit with fans of flash fiction, as well as Dunlap’s huge base of followers in the art world, this sketchbook of words and pictures will endure.
And Lee Smith says he goes straight for the jugular. Be prepared.

We don't get to post all the jpegs of artwork on exhibit that come into the office, but they have more allure and tell you more about the work than what I can write about them. Hence this slideshow of work from shows opening tonight (Aug. 10) for 2nd Friday Art Night, 5-8 p.m. (see the To Do list for more information), and other openings and shows this weekend and in the days ahead.
