OK, so that reference to "The Shock of the New" by Robert Hughes is pretty obscure unless you are an older fan of modern arts criticism. Could be worse: I could have made a terrible pun and written "New figuration in the gallery space" and made Arthur Danto's friends hurl. But there are days when you just want to do something different. It will pass.

Anyway, here are some things to do that you won't have read about in the print version of the Arkansas Times:

2nd Friday Art Night: In addition to the regular downtown stops, there will be street booths set up on either side of Broadway and Markham. Get the details here in our To Do listings.

“Art of Motion and Music: Arkansas Harp Society” celebrates the celestial instrument with a wine reception at the Arkansas Arts Center at 5:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday, May 10), followed by a talk at 6 p.m., performances by local harpists and a chance to try your hand at the harp.

The "Young Artists Family Festival" is being held in conjunction with the annual "Young Arkansas Artists" exhibition at the Arts Center 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12. Awards will be presented and there will be art activities for children.

"Champion Trees of Arkansas," Linda Palmer's large-scale drawings of the state's largest trees, opens the last show on its six-year tour in the Windgate Gallery of UA Pulaski Tech's Center for Humanities and Arts on Tuesday, May 15. At the reception Friday, May 18, Palmer will sign her book and music will be provided by Dr. Barry McVinney on saxophone and Ron Hall on piano.
