The best-known album by Conway County’s finest saxophone stylist, Monk Higgins, has been reissued. Higgins’ classic “Extra Soul Perception” has been re-pressed on LP vinyl for the first time since its release some 50 years ago by Real Gone Music. The release is limited to 1,000 copies and comes in translucent blue; “ESP” is also being reissued on CD.

The Menifee native recorded sessions with Bobby “Blue” Bland, the Chi-Lites, Etta James, Muddy Waters and others, but it’s his solo career that has caught the ear of crate diggers: The beats from Monk Higgins records have been sampled hundreds of times. Higgins died in 1986.
