Lots of faces will light up to learn that Esse Purse Museum, Little Rock's iconoclastic museum of fashion and cultural artifacts, will open "Up in Smoke," an exhibition of advertising and smoking paraphernalia that helped the tobacco industry glamorize cigarettes, on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

A spokesperson from the Smoking Cessation Program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will be at a reception for the show, 6-8 p.m. opening day. The show will run through Oct. 28.

Esse, at 1510 Main St., also features a permanent collection of purses from the collection of Anita Davis, museum founder. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tue.-Sat. and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sun. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students.

Service manager Lindsey McFadin called the Times this afternoon to say a rumor the bar had closed was killing business; by 3 p.m., no one had been in. The Times, too, had heard the rumor from a number of sources. What has changed, McFadin said, is that the bar is now only open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
