Mike “Burger” Scoggins might be remembered as one of Arkansas’ most notable singer-songwriters, but those that knew him would say that that was just the tip of the iceberg. Sweet Magnolia Brown, Tim and Burger, and Burger and Friends aren’t the only things for which he was known.

His sketch comedy show and wacky Nightflying contributions tout the glory of his eclectic personality and storytelling prowess, and while no one could do it quite like him, he’d get a kick out of folks trying.

So, it seems fitting that others are welcome to try their hand at telling some of their own stories at an open mic at White Water Tavern for "Celebrating the Life of Burger" Saturday April 13. The event welcomes friends and family to share stories and memories between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Following that, Amy Garland, John Good, Nick Devlin, Barbara Raney, Rachel Fields, Mandy McBryde, Stephanie Smittle and a host of other musicians hit the stage at 7:30 pm., playing music from Burger's weird, illustrious catalogue.

There’s a $5 suggested donation at the door that will go to Trust Tree, a nonprofit music camp for girls started by another Arkansas icon, Correne Spero, in 2017. White Water Tavern will also be serving up a burger and fry special, too.
