Too bad you can't have recall elections for school board members

This is a few days late, as I usually take weekends off - not from writing entirely, just from the blog. But this whole business of the Fayetteville Board of Education having a “special” meeting on Monday just deserves some comment, even though many others have already weighed in so eloquently on the subject.

Even for those who favor building a new high school, this business of having a “public” meeting at noon on Monday - after only a few days notice - must leave a bad taste in their mouths. Isn’t one of the purposes of a public meeting to have a meeting so  that members of the public can actually attend, and ask questions if they so desire?

Does the UA  - which is interested in buying the property the present High School sits on - simply not want many members of the public in attendance at Monday’s meeting?

This truly is a body that just doesn’t get it.

Too bad you can’t have recall elections for school board officials.

Well, you would know, I suppose

“Racism isn’t dead,” wrote Dana D. Kelley in last Friday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Well, he should know, I suppose, given that many (and I am one of them) feel that Kelley often writes in a sort of a not so secret “code” when writing about minorities, so that racists will have something to agree with in his columns.

OMIGOD it’s the American Family Association

The wacky folks at the American Family Association have sent an “Action Alert” warning folks about a new TV Land series highlighting movies from the 1980s.

The AFA claims that the title of the program belittles Christians, by using one of the catchphrases from that era.

I dunno - if I were an evangelical Christian, might I not be able to find more important subjects to spend my time on?

Gay marriage?

But TV Land?

I hope somebody out there feels silly after they send off their little protest email.

Danger, danger, Will Robinson! Bad Movie Alert!

Hallmark Movie Channel has been running a putrid “fantasy” film with Susan Dey called “Bridge of Time,” which is just a rip-ff of the classic “Lost Horizon” - only with no imagination, bad acting, bad writing, and bad direction.

And yet, I watched it all the way through, thinking, "It's got to get better."
