Racism in the Lincoln Fire Department?

Posted By on Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 12:56 AM

An email came my way from a young woman who was recently doing community service in Lincoln. I’d heard the “CHANGE” story on Keith Olbermann’s show a while back, when he recounted the story of a Florida school teacher who wrote it on a school chalkboard.

That it is criss-crossing the nation should be no surprise, or even that people in positions of authority actually think it is funny to put this sort of thing out.

It is pretty sad, though, not to mention disgusting, to find out that it may have occurred in Northwest Arkansas. Here is the email I received this weekend.

While doing my community service at the Lincoln City Street Department,  _______ from the Fire Department came over and complained about the state rep. Earl Hunton having Obama signs in his yard. He said that Obama stands for change and that he was a Baptist and we don't like change. Then he wrote the word change on the board. Using each letter downward “Come Help A  N____ Get Elected.”

He even laughed that he couldn't spell Negro that he was going to write for political reasons, but he could spell ni____ He laughed and left. The head of the Street Dept. came and erased it and asked who the hell wrote that on my board and that he didn't want anything like that written again.

Quote of the Day

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter. - Martin Luther King, Jr.

On the eve of the election - this question just has to be asked

Why would the GOP faithful be so wild about a guy who brags about going against the leaders of his own party? Their party, for crying out loud?  Really? Do they honestly think we all just fell off the turnip truck?

I’m sorry - that’s just political lunacy.

Did Dan Coody really pay for this commercial?

I saw this really, really odd campaign ad for Brother Dan tonight. I’m not sure if it was meant to be avant garde, or it was just bad editing, but it seemed to feature a woman talking - Susan Regan? - but then seemed to feature a bearded fellow talking (while Reagan was speaking) and then the bearded fellow was walking along the street,  talking on a cell phone.

Then came the silky tones of Dan Coody, who was cut off in mid-sentence as another commercial came on.

What was that all about? Who was that bearded man? Will he save the folks on the stagecoach?

If it was meant to be symbolic of the confused image that so many folks have of the Coody administration, it actually worked out quite well.
