Child molesters and cameras - what goes through their minds?

I have long been a proponent of preserving the important moments in your life; how many of us think back to our childhood and wish to high heaven that someone had had the good sense to bring a camera along. Of course, we are now living in an age when folks don’t have a lot of discernment when it comes to what to preserve on film or video.

Then again, most of us can remember excruciating evenings spent at the home of friends when they would insist on showing home movies.

Sexual predators, however, are taking this to extremes.

I have long been fascinated - yes, fascinated - by those individuals who, once they discover that their computer is on the fritz will happily trot down to their local repair store . . . and somehow forget that they have oodles and gobs of child porn on said computer.

Some of the material may even feature the person taking the computer in for repair.

What? I’m under arrest? Why, pray tell?

Case in point - and this being only one of the most recent points in the New York City of the Ozarks - the case of Scott Sholds, 31 hears old, of Lewis Avenue in Fayetteville.

Not only is young Sholds accused of videotaping himself having sex with a very young girl, but he apparently did so with a phone he had stolen from someone else, who discovered the video once the phone was returned to him.

It boggles the mind (and it takes a hell of a lot to boggle a man of a my age, Tacit Reader) that anyone is so stupid as to record themselves committing such an act.

Of course, it isn’t just those whose interests lie in child pornography who are into video work; many is the woman who will tell you of the sleazy ex-boy friend with who liked to secretly videotape his sexual encounters.

But to record something like this? Which only gives any prosecutor, anywhere, the proverbial slum dunk? What goes through their minds, if anything at all?

And what could possibly inspire someone to have their computer repaired, once it develops a few problems? Do they never read newspapers?

Obviously not.

Well, maybe we should count ourselves lucky that at least some of them are that stupid.
