Even sitting here in Oklahoma, I keep up with the goings on in the New York City of the Ozarks, and so I read tonight that that the anti-discrimination ordinance passed by the Fayetteville City Council will face a public vote within the next few months.

It is my hope that passion and eloquence will win the day this time around, and not the same tired old paranoid cliches we we heard not only during the Human Dignity Resolution battle, but are already hearing this time, as well.

Which brings us to KFSM:

For some time now I have been signed up to receive the KFSM news posts which come over email; though most of them I tend to ignore, some of them I find invaluable, and have even inspired some of my writing.

And when I am out of town, such as I am now, they provide a handy way to keep informed. Readers can even post comments about the stories, though you might be surprised at how many times the most innocent story can inspire snarky comments about Obama, or liberals in general.

Then again, maybe you wouldn’t.

I have even posted a few comments myself.

But here is the deal . . . and it is a pretty big one. Here are three examples of some of the recent comments which have been posted.

Thank God, the homosexuals would have ruined NWA.

Hopefully the voters will outlaw the ordnance to protect children in bathrooms. This will save children and make bathrooms safe again for parents to allow children back in bathrooms also men will not be allowed in women’s bathrooms again.

The scourge of liberalism must be dealt with harshly. These extremists who bully others into submission must be treated as enemies of America. They are on the same level with Islamic terrorists — they have no tolerance for those who disagree with them.

There have been others, even more hateful, in the past, but sadly, I deleted those posts. Sorry. But there is one thing you can not say in the KFSM comment section . . .

. . . you can’t use the word gay.

Oh, you you can use pretty much any insulting expression you like, but type in the word “gay” and your post disappears somewhere into the space/time continuum.

Yet, oddly enough, the word gay will often appear in news articles which KFSM sends out. It is as if the right hand literally doesn’t know what he left hand is doing.

There will be quite a few pieces sent out from KFSM in the next few months about this issue, and lots of hateful rhetoric will appear – mostly from folks who lack the integrity to use their real names – under them.

Wouldn’t it be nice if KFSM took a giant leap into the 21st Century and realized that gay is a legitimate word? This sort of unconscious bigotry has no place in the modern world.
