Lies, Damned Lies and Facebook Posts

Posted By on Wed, Oct 3, 2018 at 2:27 PM

The recent mockery of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford on Facebook seems to fall into one of three categories.A - The posts from folks who still believe everything they read online. B - those who can’t be bothered to check if their information is true. C - posts from those who cynically manipulate the folks in the first two groups.

Those in the first two groups? Well, we can pray for them, I suppose. But honestly, I don’t hold out much hope for them. I have seen, time and time again, folks who have corrected their false information, but to no avail. They still fall for anything.

It is the folks in the third category, those who knowingly post lies, who are the real problem. Yes, I know that such people have always been with us, but the joys of social media have just made the problem more pronounced.

I don’t know why they do what they do. We have the obvious answers of racism, sexism, and contempt for any and all who don’t live in the same dank dungeon of spiritual anger that they dwell in, but I’m not sure that explains it all. Is it the approval they get from the folks whose eyes they are pulling the wool over that is important to them?

Do they want others to be as angry and bitter as they seem to be, regardless of the fact that that all of that emotion is based on a wall of lies and rumours?

I dunno - maybe they want to be that most frightening of all creations, a Thought Leader.

Ugh . . .

But whatever the reasons, I can at least be grateful to them for small favours. Thanks to them, I spend a lot less time on Facebook, and that’s never a bad thing.
