Convenience Stores' Trade Group Supports Lottery

Posted By on Tue, Sep 9, 2008 at 10:33 AM

The lottery amendment is interesting to me because it's supporters and detractors are not groups you would typcially find working together on certain issues. So for example, the Family Council is against it, but so are several traditional liberal groups. I happen to be for it, mainly because every bordering state we have has a lottery - and I would rather the money being spent now on other states' educational systems be spent here.

I wasn't very impressed by the anti-lottery web site last time I looked at it. One of their arguments I've seen is that convenience stores are against the lottery becaues the create longer lines and they make no profit. This might be true among front line convenience store workers, but their trade association disagrees. According to the AP,  they came out this week in favor of the lottery.

In the movie, "Better Off Dead," with John Cusack, there is this sub-plot of the local newspaper delivery boy stalking Cusack to get his $2.  Some people will go to great lengths to get their $2 in real life as well.

In an interesting twist, the Arkansas Supreme Court today amended Ark. Sup. Ct. Rule 5-2 and will now allow all cases to be cited, doing away with the distinction between published and unpublished opinions.
