Opening Friday

Posted By on Thu, Sep 7, 2006 at 9:14 AM

Matt Smith at Market Street Cinema has Syndey Pollack's documentary "Sketches of Frank Gehry," about the famous architect.  The New York Times A.O. Scott had this to say,

"Sketches of Frank Gehry" respects the essential enigma of its subject even as it illuminates his ways of thinking about form, space and construction. As its title suggests, this absorbing documentary, the first directed by Sydney Pollack ("Out of Africa," "The Way We Were" and so on), is a modest undertaking, offering glimpses of the architect and his work rather than a full-scale portrait or catalogue raisonné."

Bigger theatres will "Hollywoodland," which I've already blogged here.

Others opening nationwide include"The Covenant," and "The Protector," a modern day martial-arts film produced by Quentin Tarantino.

I'm planning on seeing both "Hollywoodland," and "Sketches of Frank Gehry" this weekend.  I'll blog my thoughts when I do.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
