Saturday morning randomness

Posted By on Sat, Sep 16, 2006 at 9:20 AM

I'm online this morning waiting for the kick off of the Arkansas-Vanderbilt football game.  Spent some time deconstructing the game last night over a few beers with a football buddy instead of seeing either The Black Dahlia or The Last Kiss. That will line me up for a double header tomorrow.

Some interesting DVD's on the horizon.  In two weeks: Curious George (the CD with music by Jack Johnson is sweet sweetness), Down in the Valley (with the wonderful Ed Norton and Evan Rachel Wood) and The Lake House (by AR scribe David Auburn) which was a hell of a lot better than I expected.

I just stumbled on a video essay in Entertainment Weekly about the best Hollywood Noir films.  I'll post it later.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
