More Love for "The Departed"

Posted By on Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 3:34 PM

Roger Friedman loves The Departed, the latest from Martin Scorsese.

"The Departed," which I saw on Friday night, is a rocking comedy-of-a-gangster-shoot-out stuffed with great performances both big and small by all these guys, and Scorsese — who returns to his favorite genre — is the puppeteer pulling the strings.

Add Friedman to the list which includes Arkansas Dem-Gaz film critic Philip Martin.  I wonder if David Koon, the Times film critic, has seen a screener of this film.  Maybe he'll let me take a sneek peek.  Hook it up, David.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
