Ryan Gosling, Best Actor?

Posted By on Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 3:23 PM

Remember Ryan Gosling, the guy from The Notebook?  Well, he's back this year with Half Nelson and Sasha Stone of oscarwatch.com says this performance is the real deal.

There is one performance that hopefully won't slip through the cracks and that's Ryan Gosling in Half Nelson. The film is playing in art houses right now but so far buzz has been quiet. Gosling is AMAZING in the film. It's one of the best performances of the year by far. Shareeka Epps, his co-star, also does wonderful work.

Says N.Y. Times film critic Manhola Dargis of Gosling, Mr. Gosling dazzles even brighter in “Half Nelson” as a character with a more complex take on race than the one provided by a rampaging skinhead.

Matt Smith of Market Street Cinema has Half Nelson on September 29th.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
