Riding in an elevator in Toronto

Posted By on Tue, Sep 19, 2006 at 9:21 AM

Here's an interesting piece from L.A. Times writer Patrick Golstein about his experiences at the Toronto International Film Festival.  In terms of movies,

Favorites included "Venus" (with a potential Oscar turn by Peter O'Toole), "The Lives of Others" (the German drama was a critic's fave), "Catch a Fire," "Borat," "The Namesake," "Volver" and "The Last King of Scotland" (largely thanks to a showy performance by Forest Whitaker).

Be careful, he warns, actors are everywhere.  If you buy a hot dog, they'll even question your choice of condiment.

And Yoko Ono still looks good.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
