Where they stand

Posted By on Tue, Sep 19, 2006 at 8:33 AM

With Sundance, Cannes and Toronto behind us, Tom O'Neil of the L.A. Times assesses the landscape.

Moving up: Volver, Venus, Babel, The Last King of Scotland, and Pan's Labyrinth.

Moving down: All the King's Men, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, A Good Year, and Bonneville.

Positive reviews for Little Children, Bobby, Catch a Fire, Infamous and Breaking and Entering, but O'Neil says time will tell as to whether any of these films make a run during Oscar season.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.
