Got that Director

Posted By on Sun, Sep 24, 2006 at 10:38 AM

that you'll see no matter what film he or she directs?  I do.  Here's my list in no particular order:

Terrence Malick
Michael Mann
Ang Lee
Martin Scorsese
Woody Allen
Alexander Payne
Wes Anderson
Quentin Tarantino
Robert Altman
Steven Spielberg
The Coen Brothers
Steven Soderberg
Paul Thomas Anderson

I'm not ready to put Perdro Almodovar or Sofia Coppola (I'm not at all interested in seeing Marie Antoinette) up there just yet.  Sydney Pollack should probably be on my list because three of him films (Three Days of the Condor, Out of Africa and The Way We Were) are some of my favorites and I did see Random Hearts because he directed it.  Todd Field, with only two films under his belt, doesn't qualify, but he'll be there soon.

Peter Jackson's films are not any good.  After the miserable King Kong, I'm through with seeing his junk simply because he's behind the camera.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.

  • Industrial hemp pilot program coming soon to Arkansas

One of the booths at this week's Ark-La-Tex Medical Cannabis Expo was hosted by the Arkansas Hemp Association, a trade group founded to promote and expand non-intoxicating industrial hemp as an agricultural crop in the state. AHA Vice President Jeremy Fisher said the first licenses to grow experimental plots of hemp in the state should be issued by the Arkansas State Plant Board next spring.
