Sunday morning . . .

Posted By on Sun, Oct 1, 2006 at 2:14 PM

I picked up a copy of Tom Perrotta's novel Little Children today.

Not much seems to be happening in the film world.  I'm on a mad mission to get hooked up with some screeners.

I'm also on a festival mission.  Toronto's the big one, but Sundance, Tribeca, Telluride, New York, and of course Cannes and Venice, all provide interesting opportunities.  Got a festival you're interested in, let me know.

The Cardinals are playing and they can clinch with a win.  It makes me think of my favorite baseball movies: 1) Bull Durham, 2) Field of Dreams, 3) The Natural, 4) The Bad News Bears (1976),  5) Eight Men Out, 6) A League of Their Own, 7) 61, 8) For Love of the Game, 9) Pride of the Yankees, 10) Major League

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

  • That Time of Year

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.

  • City ethics update; campaign limit was supposed to help the little guy

Some more history on the Little Rock city ordinance that limits candidates for mayor and City Board to raising campaign funds to five months before the November 2018 election. It raises questions not only about Warwick Sabin's fund-raising tactics, but also Mayor Mark Stodola's carryover money.
