Kate Winslet, deserving of the Oscar?

So writes Joe Tirella for MSNBC.com.

. . . Ah, but “Little Children,” is another story. This is Winslet’s movie and the one for which she so richly deserves that Oscar. In the film, adapted from Tom Perrotta’s novel of the same name, Winslet plays a bored suburban housewife who has an affair with a bored suburban househusband (played by Patrick Wilson), who is married to the gorgeous Jennifer Connelly. Little Children is a subtle, brilliant film about the child-like desires of adults who find themselves responsible for children of their own. And Winslet is brilliant in it: at different moments in the film she is funny, sweetly awkward, smart, pathetic, sassy and sexy (there are some, ahem, steamy sex scenes).

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.
