Some 'We Are Marshall' history

Posted By on Thu, Dec 28, 2006 at 3:12 PM

From a dedicated reader . . .

The screen writer (and co producer) is a 26 year old Florida State Univesity graduate (the student who won the best student documentary at the film festival at the opening of the Clinton Library was a Florida State graduate student--must be a good program).....learned about Marshall when he was a 20 year old college student; fascinated with the Bobby Bowden/West Virigina/Florida State connection after researching the story  He is now working on the script (for an already commited movie) about an Olympic skier who had an accident and lost his memory.
Fascinating story about the reports differ: some say he resigned after 4 years (9-33) and others say he was fired. Regardless, he goes on to a stellar athletic director career at Navy and elsewhere--making the Hall of Fame. He, too, was very active in the writing/production....
Movie premiered only this month and was released on December 22...Assistant coach who left after one year played a big role in writing, filming, etc...Movie studio let him watch it privately in advance so he could speak at memorial/opening....

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
