SAG, PGA tomorrow

Posted By on Wed, Jan 3, 2007 at 12:29 PM

The Screen Actor's Guild and the Producer's Guild announce their nominations tomorrow. My guess is that the SAG nominates: "The Departed," "Dreamgirls," "The Queen," "Little Miss Sunshine," and "Babel."  The sleepers are "Little Children," "United 93," "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "Bobby."

The Producers will have more of a commercial flare: "Cars" could sneak in as could "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," or perhaps "The Devil Wears Prada."  Emily Blunt's Golden Globe nomination for that film has several predictors up in arms about the viability of this film.  I think you'll see a couple of deviations.  "The Departed" and "Dreamgirls" will make both lists.  After that, it's anyone's guess.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
