Movie Girls weighs in on "Notes on a Scandal" and "Perfume"

Notes on a Scandal was extremely good. Both Blanchett and Dench did a wonderful job. But what struck me most here was the music. Almost Hitchcockian use of music. The music, the plot, the acting, everything kept me totally enthralled, engaged, absorbed for the entire movie. I came in and out of Perfume. It could maybe have been cut a bit. It is a weaker movie compared with Notes but I think certainly worth seeing.

I have not seen "Perfurme," but I'll agree with you about "Notes on Scandal."  It was one of the year's best.  I was disappointed that the Writers Guild did not nominate it as one of the five best adapted screenplays of the year.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
