GOTV for the Oscars

Posted By on Sat, Jan 13, 2007 at 8:48 AM

And you thought GOTV operations existed only in political campaigns.  Wrong.  At 5:00 somewhere, Oscar ballots are due to PriceWaterhouseCoopers.  The LA Times took the bait and wrote this story about Harvey Weinstein and his efforts to get out the vote for "Bobby."  If you look at the awards resume of "Bobby" it's not impossible: Golden Globe nominee, SAG nominee, raves at Toronto and Venice.  I still think the top 5 are locked solid.  But you have to give Weinstein props for trying, particularly for a film that half the US critics hated.

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.
