Kdo asks, "I recently saw Black Snake Moan and was wondering what your thoughts were on the film. Also- In your opinion, what are the 10 greatest southern films?"

I haven't seen "Black Snake Moan," primarily because I've been to see anything with the exception of "Zodiac."  This weekend, I'm hoping to catch "The History Boys," "Breaking and Entering," and "Black Snake Moan."  Market Street Cinema's also releasing "Becket" with Peter O'Toole and "The Good German," which has received poor reviews, is also there.  I can wait for the DVD release of much of what's opening wide this week.

Here's my list of my 10 favorite southern films:

1.   A Steetcar Named Desire (1951)
2.   To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
3.   All the King's Men (1949)
4.   Tender Mercies (1983)
5.   The Searchers (1967)
6.   Gone With the Wind (1939)
7.   Nashville (1975)
8.   The Apostle (1997)
9.   The Last Picture Show (1971)
10. Coal Miner's Daughter (1980)

Honorable mentions: "Junebug," "Love Song for Bobby Long," "O Brother Where Art Thou," "Slingblade," "Dead Man Walking," "Cool Hand Luke," "Places in the Heart," "In the Heat of the Night," "Mississippi Burning," and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
