David Denby of The New Yorker weighs in on "Shooter" the Mark Wahlberg action flick directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day").  I caught a 10:30 am showing of this film on Saturday down at Riverdale.  The film's a blend of shoot 'em up, blow 'em up fun, but the plot twist is thin and the ending silly.  It doesn't seem too many people tried that hard on this film.  It's as if they made it just because.  The film is based on the novel "Point of Impact" written by Washington Post film critic and Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Hunter.  Hunter will have a live chat today at 1:00 EST

Thanks to Philip Martin for a shout-out in his Friday MovieStyle column.  I haven't posted my Netflix queue in a while, so here it is.Frozen River; Miracle at St. Anna; Hellboy II: The Golden Army; Happy-Go-Lucky; and Cadillac Records - - all 2008 releases that I missed.
