I was goofing around on the web very early this morning and I stumbled on news that Robert Redford was set to star in an untitled Jackie Robinson picture.  Redford will play Brooklyn Dodgers owner Branch Rickey.  I'm reading Jonathan Eig's new book "Opening Day: The Story of Jackie Robinson's First Season" now.

The film will be directed by Thomas Carter, a TV guy, who's last film was "Coach Carter."  The script was written by Kirk Ellis, Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson.  Ellis wrote the upcoming TV series "John Adams" and also wrote the popular "Into the West."  Rivele and Wilkinson co-wrote the screenplay for "Nixon," "Ali" and "Copying Beethoven." Redford's in post-production on his latest film "Lions for Lambs" which he directed and stars in opposite Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep, Michael Pena and Derek Luke.

It's the slowest for movies. "Watchmen," the much anticipated film adapted from, arguably, the greatest graphic novel of all time, has stirred the emotions of critics.
